About & Privacy

What this is

A Letter to AI is a work of net art — an artwork that lives as a website. It is a private, non-commercial project, published under a pseudonym. It has no profit motive, no advertising, no tracking, and no online store. There is nothing to buy and no donation function. The project earns nothing and pursues no commercial interest. Like much net art since the 1990s, it exists purely as creative and philosophical expression, and is maintained pseudonymously.

Privacy at a glance

This site is built to collect as little as technically possible. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, shows no advertising, embeds no third-party tracking or social-media buttons, and loads no external fonts (it uses the fonts already on your device).

When you visit

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). To deliver the page, Cloudflare automatically processes technical connection data — including your IP address — in server logs, for security and to keep the service running. Legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Cloudflare acts as our processor and is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework; transfers rely on that framework and EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Local storage in your browser

The site stores a small language preference on your device so it can show you the right language, and — only if you open the contribute page — a random session token used purely for spam protection. Both stay on your device, are never used to track you across sites, and can be erased any time by clearing your browser storage.

When you contribute

Contributing is entirely voluntary (legal basis: consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Please read this carefully:

International & permanent storage

Cloudflare may process data in the USA (see above). Content you choose to contribute is replicated across Arweave nodes worldwide and stored permanently by design. Because of this permanence, please contribute no personal data you would not want public and undeletable.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise them, write to hello@a-letter-to-ai.org.

One honest limitation: content published to Arweave is immutable by design and cannot be technically deleted — not by us, not by anyone. This is exactly why every contribution field that could contain personal data is optional, and why we ask you not to submit personal data. For anything stored outside Arweave (for example, an email you send us), your rights apply in full.
